Well, 27 years ago today, Jerry had his last meal out before checking into serenity knolls the next day, he was with Deborah and Parish, ....now a women I was dating at the time happened to wait on them. She was less than thrilled with my fascination with all things "Jerry" and even called me obsessed ( can you imagine that?) well ... when dinner was over, she dropped the check and waved her finger at him and said " I gotta tell you Jerry, my boyfriend's about to get his walkin papers cause it's always about "YOU" and the Grateful Dead.... Amused by this Jerry said " what's this guys name" Now there was a piece of stationary sitting on the table... On which Jerry wrote " Hey Tom, get a job" and signed " "Jerry Garcia".... Now, I did not see her the next day, and the next morning I got the devastating news of his passing, and that morning she stopped by and said " here , I got this for you" speechless, I just started to cry in disbelief.... His last message to a fan... She also gave me the credit card receipt signed "Jerome J. Garcia which I of course still have... Now the irony is, I did in fact " get a job" and within 5 years was working as an agent for the estate of Jerry Garcia... Now I have been known to embellish for the sake of a good story, but this is how it went down, and it's my own personal treasure.
