Shooting blazing pellets from a plane is proving an unusual but effective conservation tool! In Chinko in the Central African Republic, ECF grantee @africanparksnetwork has been using Pyroshot, a firefighting tool that looks like a paintballing gun. The pellets start controlled burns to create fire-breaks which protect the habitat of the surviving tiny elephant population from uncontrolled bush fires as well as give the elephants a safe haven. The results have been impressive and are even visible from space! In the last dry season, Chinko was the largest unburnt area across the whole of North Africa.
