Oh, my Word - Possibly the Best project I have ever had the pleasure to work on. Is the brainchild for an incredible artist @amarteygolding. Using Thousands of individual hair strands, hand knotted by @sheppertonwigcompany onto custom made garment over an untold amount of hours. Amartey and I have been working in secret on this for the best part of a year. Finally this week, all is revealed in all its magnificent glory and on tour around the Country. Titled ‘Bring Me to Heal,’ Amartey’s Vision was to have an exhibition to showcase a body of work, including films, photography and at the core to exhibit this piece. I could never do Justice to Amartey’s inspiring words on why he needed to make this right now. However, my own words. It is an explorative journey of discovery, enquiring into the traumatic effects of the collisions of life's events that continue to ripple down through generation after generation. How painful experiences ricochet, spreading more traumatic experiences onto every one of us for 100s if not 1000s of years. How far back in history do we need to retrace our steps to heal the pain we are oblivious to. The garment initiates the healing process, to bring hope, peace and halt projecting the past into our shared future. As the title suggests, healing comes from being confronted with what is so by collective rituals in the hope of transforming a present moment that is no longer defined by our shared past. The patterns of braids were inspired by ancient Gallic and Celtic symbolism scattered across the Uk. We introduced ripples of water shapes and vibrational waves, blended with traditional hairstyling techniques from Amartey’s home country Africa. This project means so much to me. Amartey invited me into his life to work closely with him. We blended into one person with the same work ethic sharing stories, and laughed so hard as we shared stories about our mixed family heritages from the different parts of the world. many of those conversations are embellished into the braids of the garment For all time. If the garment could talk! #braids #fulllacewigbraids #menscornrowstyles ##womenbraids #hairstyling #afrohairstyles #amarteygolding
