🫐 FORAGING BILBERRIES! 🫐 Rolling hills of heather often harbour delicious little surprises... bilberries! We don’t have many in Sussex so I’m always so happy to travel a little further North of the country for these scrumptious treats! ⛰ I can’t think of anything better than hours plucking ripe berries from the little shrubby plants, staining my hands and knees pink and purple and drawing bilberry tattoos on friends legs and faces! 💜 Like blueberries but way tastier (especially when compared to huge, tasteless supermarket blueberries!) they come with plenty of antioxidants and medicinal benefits! ✨ Did you know that WW2 fighter pilots used to take a spoonful of bilberry jam before takeoff because they believed it helped develop keen night vision?! 👀 I usually love to make a bilberry pie with a lattice top 🥧 but unfortunately, me and my mate @hazeoutdoors ate most of our harvest before making it home! (which I can’t lie, happens quite a lot 🫢) How do you like your bilberries?!
