Upemba National Park in the Democratic Republic of Congo is home to the country’s last savannah elephant population, as well as a multitude other biodiversity. @forgottenparksfoundation (FPF) assumed management of the park in 2017, bringing much needed support to a protected area under continued threat from rebel groups, poachers, mining, hydro electric interests, illegal settlements and other illegal activities.
As if these pressures were not enough, human-elephant conflict is a growing issue on the periphery of the park. The ECF has recently stepped in to cover a funding gap, to allow FPF to continue critical operations and patrols in this important but vulnerable site.
