FLAT IRON 101 Ceramic or titanium? Ceramic irons usually are more gentle in heat. They heat slower and are usually best for fine - medium hair types. *note how I say usually* Titanium Irons are faster to heat and are more tenacious. These usually work better for medium to coarse hair types- especially those looking to straighten a curl. Example one: - You have curly hair. You purchased a ceramic iron. You crank the heat to 450 because otherwise the iron doesn’t pull your curl straight enough. A titanium iron on lower heat and one pass will likely get your curl straighter with less damage. Example two: You have fine, slightly wavy hair. You like to use your flat iron to curl and straighten. You purchased a titanium iron and your ends are starting to feel really brittle and broken. A ceramic iron at 350-375 will be a bit more gentle on your hair. Need to knows: - ALWAYS! USE! HEAT! PROTECTANT! I prefer @redken quick blow out in dry hair for flat iron heat protection. - a never go above 350-375 degrees! - Use small, controlled sections. - Passing through your hair once, slowly, in small sections is better for your hair than passing through a larger section several times. *Because apparently I have to put disclaimers on things* please note that hair is diverse. You could have extremely curly or coily hair and have a ceramic iron you absolutely adore. AWESOME. That’s lovely. You might have fine hair and live your titanium iron (like me).
