As we approach the 5th Anniversary of Hurricane Harvey, there is still a lack of significant street drainage investment by the City in Northeast Houston. And the consequences are dire for its residents. Like Lotti Minor, a 50 year home owner in the historically black and brown neighborhood of Northwood Manor. Her house flooded a second time during Hurricane Imelda, after just recovering from Harvey. Today Mrs. Minor is still dealing with mold in her house as a result of the persistent flooding. The proceeding photos show her street during a heavy, unnamed rain storm that struck in May of 2021. She said that only her prayers stopped the rain from flooding out her house. This resident and her neighbors have flooded during Tropical Storm Allison, Hurricane Harvey and Tropical Storm Imelda. And they are exhausted from water chronically entering their homes and causing physical as well as emotional distress. We hope to work more with Northwood Manor on getting their residents prepared for the next storm until the city decides it's worth their dollar to invest in this historic community.
