What a beautiful example of the power of intergenerational sisterhood! Ann Jewel Moore, C’43, and Nakaiya Turk, C’2012, met at a @NAASC_Atlanta meeting in 2015 and have remained connected through the years. The 102-year-old alumna and fashion pioneer created custom designs under her company, Ann Moore Couturier, for more than 20 years. @Vogue Magazine featured her work in a 1953 issue of the publication. A selection of her designs is currently on view in the lobby of the Atlanta History Center through December 2022. In a 2017 Spelman Our Stories feature, Turk reflected on the impact of the Spelman sisterhood, “At Spelman, I learned that this special sisterhood is the best network you can have. I love Spelman for extending my family in such a way; that it now includes thousands of Black girls who truly rock! The support I have received from my Spelman sisters in my career thus far is unmatched.
