Danielle Mckinney is profiled in @voguemagazine’s October 2022 issue. This October, Mckinney will have her first solo exhibition with the gallery in New York. In these new paintings, the artist deepens her personal, intimate engagement with representations of the Black female figure. Depicted in moments of solitary contemplation or repose, Mckinney's women oppose the Western art historical tradition of depicting Black women either working, fading into the background, or both. In conversation with Alexis Okeowo @aokeowo , Mckinney says, “I wanted to paint this feeling of: When I get home and no one’s around, who am I? Who am I without this façade?"
