Day 2 of sharing some quotations and illustrations to celebrate the one-year anniversary of my novel’s release:
“This was the part I think Horace was stuck on. Horace does not like the idea of stealing, as he was raised a Christian. I was also raised a Christian, but I am agnostic as to the question of stealing. I like it when it benefits me, but I do not like it when it does not.
I believe Christianity is a handicap in many ways, like a club foot, or a stutter. Horace’s attitude toward my plan was proving me right. He was unfortunately myopic when it came to my ideas. He had very bad hands for the piano, and an even worse imagination for plans. This required me to repeat my reasons for even conceiving this plan.
‘Horace, please listen to me,’ I pleaded. I had grabbed his arm to both show the importance of what I was going to say, and also because he was dangerously close to running into the person in front of him. Horace is not particularly coordinated.”
