This is great advice from @hormoneequilibrium . Posted @withrepost . 🟠Antidepressants are usually not my first choice for peri/menopausal mood problems but they can be a good treatment option for some people who struggle with severe anxiety. Particularly also for those women who can’t take HRT (due to hormone dependant cancers etc) 🟣HRT sadly doesn’t always resolve anxiety very well and we should not cause feelings of guilt or scare women from seeking further help if HRT isn’t doing the job 🟢Lifestyle choices can obviously make a difference but again this isn’t always easy to translate into real life experiences 🔵Some women feel like a failure when they don’t respond to HRT like their friends do for example, who may have had a completely different and very positive experience. For some women HRT can be a literal lifesaver and for others it is less effective. That doesn’t mean it isn’t beneficial, just not the solution to all symptoms. ⚪️Anxiety is often multi factorial; one of the most challenging symptoms to treat. A holistic multi disciplinary approach (talking therapy, stress management, medication) is often needed 🟡We are complex creatures and life is hard for many people right now and if you find taking an antidepressant alongside your HRT helps you to function better, then this is perfectly ok and is a valid choice to make. It can often help people to get to a better place which then allows them to have the energy and mental capacity to identify any underlying causes and to start engaging with other forms of therapy. 🟢There may be other non-medical treatment options like supplements, relaxation techniques, nutritional approaches etc which could be helpful as well but I may cover these in a future post. . #hormones #menopause #perimenopause #mood #anxiety #menopauserelief #menopausesupport #menopausesymptoms #womenshealth #menopausehealth #menopausehelp #hrt #midlifewoman #lifestyle #womenover40 #midlifer #midlifewomen #fortysomething
