The Experience of Antwerp – @kaat.debo in Conversation with @p_e_c_o_m
A conversation between Kaat Debo, Museum Director at MoMu and Marco Pecorari, director of the MA in Fashion Studies at Parsons Paris on the importance of fashion eco systems in the ‘periphery’ with Antwerp as a model. Emerging in the late Eighties/early Nineties as an alternative fashion city, Antwerp represents a perfect case for observing the shifting geographies of fashion – building a unique profile internationally whilst also reshaping its urban landscape and policies around fashion. The discussion explored this case, investigating the history but also the changing contexts in which Antwerp emerged as a fashion city. How to position fashion education in these ecosystems in order to nurture talent in the best possible way? Can smaller fashion cities offer new ideas, models or systems for a fast paced & (too) slowly changing fashion world? If systemic change is needed, will it come from the center or the periphery?
