Meet @hijabi.sk8er - our next Suregrip Skate Crew member to introduce! "Helloo!! My name is Rana Nabulsi (she/her). I’m from Orange County, CA and I’m Jordanian/ Palestinian! I first started skating around June of 2021 and started skating at skateparks in October. I started because I wanted to try something new and give myself some kind of distraction for my mental health. I fell in love with it and found comfort in going to the skatepark to try new things everyday, and seeing that I’m capable of more than I realized. I kept rolling because when I have my skates on, I feel most like myself. In a way I can’t really put into words, I always felt like an outsider. But skating was that one thing that just clicked for me, and this community gave me a place where I felt like I belonged, despite feeling out of place at first. Now one of my main goals is to inspire other Muslim/ Hijabi girls who might feel scared or less confident to go to the skatepark, because I had that fear of looking different at first too.
