At the @honnoldfoundation, we couldn't agree more. Far too often, grantmakers assume a position of expertise, authority, and decision-making. They may only fund activities and expenses they think are necessary, rather than giving grantees the freedom and trust they deserve. They assume they know what's best for a community— not the other way around. Ultimately, their trust becomes contingent upon time-consuming financial reporting structures, creating an emphasis on reports and receipts, not results. We develop trust-based relationships to make space for minimalistic application and reporting structures, and while our grants are often project-specific, our funding is always unrestricted.
