First post in awhile, but had to get it out so I can have peace within. I usually don't say too much but the current situation in Puerto Rico needs to be addressed. You have seen my posts about Puerto Rico which have wilded me up the past few weeks, but it comes with reason. We are witnessing modern colonialism in PR. The Governor of PR @pedropierluisi along with many PNP political figures have turned their back on the Puerto rican people with laws 22 20 and 60 that favor outside investors such as modern day colonizers @reiarico buying property with generous tax breaks that are not available to the native population as costs continue to skyrocket and Puerto ricans are forced out of the land of their birth. Yet we continue to see public schools close, pensions cut for our older population, vast migration. It's text book disaster capitalism taking place. As someone who is the PR diaspora, it breaks my heart to see this. To see my cousins have to leave for better opportunities, to see and hear my titi "bregando" dia a dia, and still finding it hard to make ends meet. To my tio y tia losing their Casita and have to share a cramp apt. All while the rich get richer and relish in the idea of a Puerto Rico without Puerto Ricans. In short: The United States has never given two sh*ts about Puerto Rico and its people. Period. I want to shout some young boris who really give me hope. I tagged them in the post and I hope yall can follow and support them in any way and listen to the stories they are telling.
