One of the most common questions I’ve had over the years from new stylists is “How do I get into doing hair for photoshoots?”⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ You’re going to hate this answer but honestly: there are a million different ways for a million different people, depending on where you live / who you know / skill level / networking / career path / your objective / access / etc⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ What I urge folks to consider in these conversations is that there is a *LOT* of cool, creative space for photoshoot work that isn’t just full-time session styling. If you work in a salon in small town or suburb (hiii me too), use Instagram or FB groups to find local photographers to collaborate with. Ask your clients who are comfy in front of the camera to model or reach out to local models. Network with local clothing boutiques or designers. Carve a little time out each quarter to all get your creative zoomies out together.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Like most things, if you keep consistent with this routine the impact of these collaborations grows with you...you may decide to pursue freelance work more professionally, you may continue to collaborate more creatively whenever possible. All directions are a vibe ✌🏼💕 ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ I have been BLESSED to collaborate with extremely cool + talented folks in my area like this very very fun shoot with @mpaddockfarrell 👑💕⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Models: @zoelisee @elizabethmiu ⁣⁣ Makeup: @zoe_della_rocca ⁣⁣ Wardrobe: @hwgapdx⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ ❌⭕️❌⭕️❌⭕️❌⭕️⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ #hairstylist #editorialhair #photoshoot #portlandfashion #portlandmodel #portlandhairstylist #vanwahair #vanwahairstylist #portlandphotographer #vanwaphotographer #hairstylistlife #vancouverwahairstylist #hairfashion #hairbrained⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣
