This Wild, Wild Country by Inga Vesper šŸŽ For synopsis please swipe āž”ļø It’s my stop on the @randomthingstours #booktour for this twisty mystery today, and this is a really clever novel which will keep you guessing throughout! I think the synopsis covers the majority as I certainly don’t want to give any of this book’s secrets away, but this is a great multiple timeline story with three very different, but brilliant women at its core. In 1933, there’s Cornelia Stover, a young mother and widow breaking all the rules in a man’s world, and it’s only decades later that her granddaughter Glitter will uncover the mystery of her disappearance with the help of ex-cop Joanna. They certainly make for unlikely allies, with Glitter leading a hippie life of free love and drugs whilst Joanna has always followed the law, but together the pair bring a decades long conspiracy to an end. So I’ll admit that I didn’t think this read especially easily - it felt quite complex and a lot of the language or terminology was quite alien to me so I really had to concentrate, especially with so much talk of drugs etc which I’ve always been too squeaky clean to have a clue about šŸ˜‚ But if you can persevere it’s worth it as it’s a really original and surprising story, with this combination of Wild West vibes juxtaposed against drug deals and biker gangs! I don’t think you’ll easily see what’s coming next at any point! Then there are the brilliant female characters totally stealing the show and doing their own thing in a time and place where men still reigned ā€œsupremeā€. I loved how Glitter was this total peace & love hippie, yet totally fearless and strong. Definitely a great choice for crime and mystery lovers looking for something a little different! #ThisWildWildCountry is out now from @manilla_press and a huge thanks to the publisher for my gifted copy šŸŽ
