TROI OI is an interdisciplinary project between designer Nhu Duong and artist Sung Tieu, offering a platform to examine their cultural and diasporic heritage as Vietnamese immigrants living in Europe. Their project “Diaspora, Ma Homey” departed from the duo's initial research into the history of how Vietnamese-owned flower shops, which emerged in Berlin in the early 1990s after the collapse of the GDR. Troi Oi’s first project saw the release of a limited-edition sweater that was only available at such flower shops around Berlin’s metro network. By utilizing the distribution system of the flower stands, Troi Oi encouraged active engagement with the Vietnamese community and their histories as a way of activating discussions around migration, integration, and hybridity.
