As part of our takeover series following International Day of Persons with Disabilities, we’ve invited award-winning recording artist and Disability inclusion leader @lachimusic to speak about herself and her experiences in the music industry. “Hey yall, Lachi taking over Gucci Equilibrium, she/her, black girl, cornrows! So happy to celebrate IDPD with you, I’m a blind woman from NYC, and I’ve made a career in the music industry as an EDM vocalist. But when I looked around for other disabled musicians, I found so many stories of isolation, stories of the industry’s ableism, stories of young musicians being discouraged from pursuing a music career due to their disabilities. Well, I decided that just couldn’t stand! I went to the @RecordingAcademy and said we need to have a discussion about disability representation and inclusion in the music industry - and now I’m a sitting board member and DEI ambassador for the NY Grammy chapter.
