It’s #jurassicworlddominion release day, so we must celebrate the indomitable @lauradern @brycedhoward and @dewandawise on the main feed! Please enjoy those ICONIC images by the genius @aspictures, along with a few of my most unforgettable moments covering the “end of the Jurassic era”! Writing this cover was particularly meaningful because I was 6 when “The Lost World: Jurassic Park” hit theaters. I was awestruck to see Kelly Curtis – a young Black girl and a gymnast, just like me – facing off against dinosaurs. Then, when my parents rented “Jurassic Park” on VHS, I met Dr. Ellie Sattler and Lex, and realized why these movies so captivated me. It wasn’t simply that dinosaurs are awesome (They are!🦕🦖), but that these “Jurassic” women were awe-inspiring. They were, as I wrote in the story, as compassionate as they are capable; desirable yet never the “sexy scientist” trope; and, above all, quick-witted, clever and not afraid to get up to their elbows in dinosaur dung. Like my other heroes at the time – both real (Dominique Dawes) and fictional (Carrie Fisher’s Princess Leia) – the women of Jurassic World have shaped me over the last three decades, and I’m so grateful to these three incredible women and the whole JWD/Universal team for their time and passion in helping me craft this tribute to them, along with more dino-stories to fill your weekend!
