Let’s discuss editorial styling!
I came right out of the gate in hair-school years ago with the passion for hairstyling for personal exploration of Imagery & publications.
This post is not to be confused with taking photos of Your work with clients in the salon or taking photos at special events/ weddings where you are contracted. ( there’s a lot of information for those practices but this isn’t one of them.)
What I’m speaking about is purely paid gigs or unpaid collaborations creating styles based on mood boards /aforementioned ideas which you contribute time, energy, hair and products to.
One of the most frequent questions I get asked is “How do you find time for creative work?” The truth is- I don’t. I MAKE time for it.
FOR ME- this often looks like paying my nanny and using my “ days off” to create things I love.
For further clarification of the video- the prices you are seeing are PURELY the hours spent actually installing/ styling the initial look, product/ pins & the cost of hair either synthetic or human ( based on the collective outcome of the final look, the models natural existing hair type and factors like weather, set location, plans for multiple hair looks within one shoot setting etc). The numbers in this video do NOT include: travel to and from location, time spent prepping/ designing/researching looks & models , and for major wig styles- the price does not reflect the time spent behind the scenes prepping hair ( although it could! It’s your life & career- charge appropriately!) The video does not express cost for the time spent on location after the look is finished making sure that my own expectations as well as the expectations of My photographer, model, MUA etc who are often also contributing their time- are met.
