A cuddle against warm skin can be life-saving for a premature baby. Kangaroo care, used here at a UNICEF supported hospital, is skin-to-skin contact that helps regulate breathing and body temperature and encourages bonding between parents and their baby.
Kassum tells us: “While my wife is resting, I gladly take over the role. I actually think it's sweet. At first we were in a panic because our first child weighs so little and had to go in the incubator. But we were soon reassured by the doctor and nursing staff. Now I enjoy doing it. I even notice a reaction from the little one. It gives a wonderful feeling, and I already notice a small progress.”
