This month ArtKorero will open a new show featuring a retrospective of work by acclaimed painter Lan Stanley alongside selected works by the family of Picasso at our @medubaihotel gallery. Lan Stanley has lived & worked previously in the USA, UK & Hong Kong. This exhibition highlights her journey of self-discovery. A graduate of the Hanoi University of Fine Arts in Vietnam, Lan paints in mixed media on canvas, lacquer & paper, & she also makes etchings. Her subjects transcend boundaries & nationalities; most of her work is about love — of people, nature & culture ... all are conversations that she shares through her work. Lan began working seriously as an artist at the age of 12, after a master artist in Hanoi saw her work & insisted she take art classes to hone her skills. In 1996, she became the first female artist to hold a solo show in modern-day Vietnam. Since then, Lan has held solo & group exhibitions in New York, London, Monaco, Hong Kong, Dubai & elsewhere. She has garnered awards in Florida & Pennsylvania in the USA. Her art brightens private collections around the world & has featured in publications such as Harper’s Bazaar, Gulf News, Art Guide USA & Asian ArtNews. Lan Stanley and Picasso share one thing in common; their love and passion for art which has been unanimously translated into the work they have on display for this show. “To me art is one of the best ways to express yourself. Art is something that liberates your soul, provokes the imagination and encourages people to go further. Art is about life, and where there is life, there is love.” Stanley says. Being a fan of Picasso’s work, and having her collection displayed alongside the Picassos family’s collection has been an honour says Stanley; “Picasso's work is incredible, he is still one of the best artists to have ever lived.
