So I’m out of town at a work conference and the resort/convention center where it’s located is ridiculously huge. Every morning I’ve silently complained in my head during the loooong walk from my hotel room to the convention center & this morning, I was humbly reminded of how far I’ve come. 10 years ago today, when I graduated from THEE Howard University, I was swollen all over my body, dehydrated, and felt like I was seconds away from a mini heat stroke (iykyk). Less than a month later, I’d be diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disease called dermatomyositis. I could barely walk, get dressed, or do pretty much anything on my own. I felt like a 95-year-old in a 22-year-old’s body. By the grace of God, I recovered within a year and have been symptom- and medication-free ever since. Ten years ago, I couldn’t walk from one house to the next without getting exerted, much less walk around an entire resort. Grateful for health, an amazing career, and perspective.
