Sarah Bahbah is a creative force in constant evolution. Having carved out a place for herself as one of Instagram’s most influential artists in less than 10 years, the LA-based, self-taught photographer and director is now looking at bringing her “narrative style photography” to life through long-form motion pictures. In her successful, star-studded visual stories, she has frequently joined forces with talents including actors Noah Centineo, Alisha Boe, Dylan Sprouse, and, most recently, YouTuber-turned-TikToker Nailea Devora, who featured along model Stevan Journey in her recent short film, “I ____ YOU.” The mind behind “Possy,” her own creative agency, Bahbah is also taking her signature cinematic aesthetic to the realms of fashion and music, having previously worked with the likes of Gucci and directed music videos for Norwegian artist Kygo. In this conversation with ODDA, she talks us through her process — which fuses the warmth of her Australian upbringing with a taboo-breaking take on the female experience — explaining how looking at “art as a form of survival” allowed her to reconcile with her Arab roots and come to terms with the dark sides of her own story.
"I’ve experienced a lot of hardships over the years and I think that by leveraging my craft in order to navigate pain and suffering, I have been able to pull myself out of a lot of dark places."
