Today is 9 December!🎄 Did you know that the Danish Christmas elves, the “nisser”, were originally thought to be quite short tempered? According to tradition, each house had a “nisse” who secretly acted as guardian of the household throughout the entire year. If treated well, they would protect the family from evil, but if not, well – they would play tricks, steal or even kill lifestock on the farm they lived on. Today these elves are associated with the Christmas season and during December, kids dress up as “nisser” by wearing the iconic red “nissehue” (elf hat) 🎁. In many families it is still custom to put out rise pudding with butter and cinnamon for the “nisse” - just to be sure he’s in a good mood🍚 📸1: Brittany Overgaard 📸2: Nicoline Sjødahl
