In Sierra Leone, women make up the majority of agricultural workers. Subsistence farming is a key industry, with agriculture accounting for almost half of the country’s Gross Domestic Product. A group of single mothers and widows have managed to create their own highly profitable business by transforming previously unusable swamp land into rice paddies. The money helps them to provide for their children and family. Despite being ridiculed for setting up their collective initially, the group now have plans to expand the business. #SierraLeone #Agriculture
