🚸 “My toddler’s favorite word is NO!” Sound familiar? Here are 3 simple ways to turn the “no’s” into more cooperation.
Psychiatrist and author of Practical Optimism, @doctorsuevarma, shares with @adrianadiaz and @tonydokoupil @cbsmornings Plus this morning
3 tips to reduce the stress level and struggle at home:
1️⃣ Offer Choices, Not Commands
Instead of “Put your shoes on now” → try “Do you want the red sneakers or the blue ones?” Kids feel empowered and you still get the result you need.
2️⃣ Make It a Game
Turn routines into play. “Hop like a kangaroo to the bathroom!” works better than “Go brush your teeth.” Fun lowers resistance.
3️⃣ Yes Before the No
Validate first. “I know you don’t want to stop playing—it’s fun! And now it’s dinner time.” Kids feel heard, which makes them more willing to listen.
✨ Remember: Choices. Play. Empathy. Three tools that turn power struggles into connection. 💛
