Artists have access to worlds beyond the one we know through visions, dreams and fantasies that summon a celestial realm of spirits, deities, monsters and extra-sensory phenomena. The mysteries of Olmec stargazer sculptures and Shang dynasty chimeras are lost in time. For the Old Master Albrecht Dürer, the metaphysical becomes real in images of the apocalypse and alchemy.
