Why do they hate us so much? Why do they hate queer people for simply existing? They don’t care about sodomy. Heterosexual people have anal sex all the time. They care about losing control over us. Non-queer Pākehā Christian men created the status quo. They are committed to maintaining the status quo because that keeps them in power. They stay in power by controlling our bodies and minds and therefore having access to our money. Many religious extremist leaders fund their lifestyles by exploiting the church and their believers. For as long as people subscribe to their anti-queer hatred, they will remain wealthy and in control. Queer existence threatens the status quo because it defies the cis-heteronormative way of being. This scares religious extremists. The closer queer people get to achieving their full humanity, the more violent the status quo becomes. Queer folk have been fighting harder than ever, and so the status quo is becoming more violent than ever. The more queer people there are and the more allies there are, the weaker the status quo becomes. And as the status quo becomes weaker, religious extremists lose control, power and money. That’s why they hate us. That is why they are becoming so violent. They hate us because we are creating a world in which everyone is free from them.
