Deeply grateful for the hearts, minds, and hands that helped make this scene where I got to take that great & vulnerable walk with @randomrobmorgan . Especially grateful for @maxborenstein @therodneybarnes for the nod to the great and courageous migration of Black families in America. The Johnsons’ migration story is my family’s story-from the heat of Mississippi to the heat of the auto factories in Michigan. My mother, like her parents, worked the Chrysler line. A single Black woman in Detroit with no college degree, trying to find a way in a world with steel ceilings. When i ask her about all the treacherous roads she’s successfully walked, she brushes it off like it’s no big deal and says, “ boy, I was just walking with Jesus”. Grateful son🙏🏾
