If you bought a fancy camera and the images are not quite as detailed as you’d hoped, the answer is NOT a newer camera, more megapixels, or a more expensive lens— it’s more light.

If you’re shooting at ISO 100 and (around) F4 or above, you will be able to count pores from the front to back of your haircut. However, you’ll find that if you’re shooting in the salon or barbershop and you set your camera to ISO 100 and F8 with a usable shutter speed then you’ll have VERY dark photos. This is why some kind of flash becomes super beneficial, it allows you to keep your ISO low and aperture high, which is what gives photos that super crispy detailed look (even with an older and/or cheaper camera).

If you have a fancy camera and you don’t know what any of this means, start looking on YouTube to learn the “exposure triangle” first, and then if you want to get a massive amount of detail, learn how to use a cheap speed light or studio strobe so you can keep your ISO low and aperture high.
