Yesterday I saw beavers for the first time ever, and in Devon! I loved watching them gnawing through branches and swimming in the river - both the 2 adults and the 2+ kits that we spotted (swipe for some videos!) But this was also a super exciting moment for me because I’ve been an ambassador to the @beavertrust for a long time, and in my opinion beavers are such an important flagship species when talking about rewilding. They became extinct in the UK 400 years ago, but have slowly been reintroduced - helping massively with biodiversity and climate change. Their dams help to build up strong freshwater habitats for plants, mammals, insects and more. While they also help to build up climate change resilient landscapes that can cope better with both flooding and drought. Rewilding in general is going to be a critical price of the puzzle in terms of both biodiversity loss and climate change, and beavers are a lovely insight into what it could look like going forward.
