I didn’t know it then, but I was lucky enough to meet the Walia’s 12 years ago after our first-ever Drake concert. Because the concert was close to his childhood home in Connecticut, @ashish_walia convinced me meet to his parents after a few short moments of dating.💕 What I noticed then holds true today. Ashish’s dad was a man of few words but what he passed on to his son and daughter was profound. Loyalty, grit and hardwork are a few of the traits I see in Ashish and my sister-in-law, Anshu.💜 A young immigrant, he left his country in 1989 with his wife and daughter to pursue the American dream. He’d work hard for more than 26 years, ensuring his two kids never had to worry about a thing.🙏🏾 Always quietly observing us, I’m grateful we bonded over ZeeTV soap operas, talked about his favorite Bollywood movies, shared the same love for dosas and chutney, and although begrudgingly, he’d agree to smile for my selfies. Heartbroken to have witnessed the loss of my father-in-law on June 26th, I am grateful to have spent countless slow Saturday’s together, where’d we have a late chai, watch an episode of Dance India Dance, and smile when my nieces Anya and Anika interrupt the episode to show a magic trick or wrestle Ashish. We love you and will miss forever and ever, Dad!🕊💜 A giant thank you to our families on both sides for holding us down during this tough time. We couldn’t have done June without our sisters, @anshu227, @p_sakhuja and my brother-in-law, @uconnpuneet, the perfect, little family unit. And lots of love to our friends for truly supporting us, we sincerely appreciate and love you. Every call, text, DM, the many flowers, food deliveries, and prayers have made a huge difference.✨
