I wrote about the controversy around @sheinofficial’s $50 million fund to tackle clothing waste - $15 million of which will go to @theorispresent to help the situation on the ground in Kantamanto Market in Accra, Ghana. “We’re accountable not to the sustainability community in the Global North; we are accountable to the Kantamanto community that has trusted us for years,” @lraericketts told me. “[Imagine] if we told the community that we could finally get resources to do some of the things they’ve been saying they want to do, and we turned it down because we were afraid of Instagram comments.” Of course, the root cause of the problem - the massive volumes of clothing being produced - still needs to be addressed.
