I first met Dora Maria Téllez, legendary Sandinista guerrilla commander, just after she stormed Nicaragua’s National Palace in 1978, which led to the popular insurrection that overthrew the Somoza dictatorship. Last week this lifelong revolutionary was found guilty of “conspiring to undermine national integrity”, and was sentenced by the Ortega regime to 15 years in prison during a closed-door trial. Her only crime has been fighting injustice and defending the most marginalized in Nicaragua. Image 1 // Dora María Téllez, after the taking of the National Palace, Managua, Nicaragua, August 1978.
