I don’t know what the answer is. I do know it’s not a simple one.
What satisfaction could anyone get from murdering any innocent person? A group of innocent people? Ok.. let’s pretend somehow in a shooter’s mind that either of those scenarios are somehow justified.... So, what about a school of elementary children? What could possibly be the motive? There can’t be one. And if there is, I need to know. We need to know. That person shouldn’t have such an easy escape route as to being taken out by officers or get to choose to pull the trigger on themselves. At least, not after they’ve already committed their crime. Why not just do that first? Seriously. Their victims don’t get that choice.
Provide better available care for mental health? Ban guns? Yea, maybe. I don’t think that’s gonna do it though. I’m afraid the core of it has gotten too rotten to salvage at this point. I think we all mostly agree on this, though. So then, why can’t we figure it out? I don’t know. I wish I did.
My heart hurts, though. Been hurting since eighth grade. Columbine happened that year. Love.
