Hakuna Matata! 🦁👑 9 months ago I was told I wouldn’t perform at my full potential, on stilts, until I was nearing 2 years out of recovery. 9 months later, I’m the first black woman to ever perform as a Stilt Warrior in Festival of the Lion King. As much as I talk about how culturally and spiritually rich the art of stilt walking is, I couldn’t have imagined a better show to make my comeback and at the same time, make history. Just recently there was the first all female cast of Stilt Warriors in 25 years and I am so proud of those ladies! I’m proud to be a woman who can break these barriers and inspire the next generation of young girls who look like me. Being a Disney performer has always been a dream of mine and this is a show that I’ve always dreamed of being apart of. I’ve always loved all things Lion King, the movies, the plays, the music. I never thought getting this role would be possible because for a long time it wasn’t. The rehearsals were long, physically and mentally demanding. For a large part of it, I didn’t think I would make it through. I would repeatedly tell myself “I’m not the same performer I once was.” But I still am and I was surrounded by an incredible group of people the entire time.
