On The Margins – a Panel Discussion chaired by @dalchodha with @p_e_c_o_m, @namkyuchun & @kaat.debo Conversations around imagining a “new” fashion system—one that is decentralized and independent—are often proudly naive to the actualities of the system we have inherited. To really challenge and destabilize problems of over consumption, homogeneous thinking and needless production, our media—both printed and digital—needs to change. The symposium Decentralizing Fashion posits: “can we envision the ‘periphery’ as distributed, yet globally connected fashion micro-powerhouses, further enabled by digital infrastructures?” For this to flourish, a system of new thinking is needed. Three speakers from the symposium selected one piece of printed matter held within the collection at the International Library of Fashion Research. They spoke about how their choice might become a sympathetic guide towards establishing a new normal.
