The history of traveling queer parties in Chicago is rooted in exclusion and racism. This week, the Curious City team spoke with Pat McCombs and Vera Washington — longtime organizers of Executive Sweet, a traveling party focused on Black lesbians that got its start in the early 1980s. Over the years, McCombs and Washington have hosted parties designed to bring joy and community to Black lesbians at more venues around the city than they can count.
