Hanukkah, donuts, and a @jewishfoodsociety Greenmarket cooking demo?! Doesn’t get better than that! For this year’s annual Hanukkah demo, JFS did the impossible: market-made donuts! And not just any donuts. Aebleskiver! This traditional Danish pastry is pillowy, rotund, and oh so delicious. They’re filled with a punchy, Granny Smith apple purée and fried in an aebleskiver cast iron pan, dusted with powdered sugar. They’re the perfect size for eating in one bite! The recipe comes to us by way of Margit Sheftelowitz. Hailing from a small Jewish community in Copenhagen, growing up her family would weave the Danish holiday festivities with their own traditions. When Margit moved to Israel in the early 1960s, the aebleskiver recipe (and pan!) came with her. They’ve been a staple on her Hanukkah table ever since! Swipe through to see how they’re made!
