🎭 Introducing, Joanna Quinn 🎭 Her debut novel, THE WHALEBONE THEATRE, is coming 10.4.22! Here is a message from her to you: "Hello, I'm Joanna and I'm the author of the forthcoming The Whalebone Theatre. When I decided to try to write a novel, I wanted it to be the kind I love to read. One of those rich, immersive novels you can lose yourself in for weeks. The Whalebone Theatre is set in Dorset, England, where I live. I wanted to imagine what life might be like inside one of the ancient manor houses we have here. The English manor is a place that has very specific codes of behaviour, and I was especially interested in people who don’t fit in – or who don’t want to fit in, like my main character Cristabel Seagrave, a stubborn orphan girl who finds a washed-up whale on a beach and claims it as her own. I love stories that span generations, and mine follows Cristabel and her siblings through their bohemian childhoods in the 1920s onto their lives as young adults during the Second World War. An awful lot happens to the Seagraves (and their unusual collection of friends and family), but one thing that always unites them is their love of books and imagination – which is a love I share, and one that inspired me to write my own. Just behind me in this photo you can see my dining room table, where I finished writing my novel during lockdown.
