CAMH is thrilled to announce the 2022–23 Fall/Winter exhibition season! Plan your visit in the upcoming months for these exhibitions: 1. Troy Montes Michie: Rock of Eye 🗓️ September 23, 2022–January 29, 2023 An early-career survey for El Paso-born artist Troy Montes Michie (@troymmichie), combining the artist’s previous collages and assemblages that center magazine images of the Black male body in addition to sculptural works that trace the social history of the zoot suit. By utilizing and sewing textiles, garments, and archival materials from newsprint to erotic magazines, Montes Michie subverts dominant narratives and investigates the ways in which bodies of marginalized communities are frequently erased, fetishized, idealized, and criminalized. With Rock of Eye, Montes Michie’s stitches suture histories and borderland geographies; they establish thresholds for crossing. 2. Diane Severin Nguyen: IF REVOLUTION IS A SICKNESS 🗓️ October 28, 2022–February 26, 2023 Solo exhibition for artist Diane Severin Nguyen that explores the contingency and elasticity of identity, memory, and meaning in her work. The exhibition is built around the titular video installation, IF REVOLUTION IS A SICKNESS, which loosely follows the character of an orphaned Vietnamese child who grows up to be taken in by a South Korean pop-inspired dance group in Warsaw, Poland. Additionally, the exhibition will feature a series of photographs, a site-specific architectural intervention, and the artist’s first public art commission in the form of billboards located across Houston. Across mediums, Nguyen’s work focuses on states of transition and moments of transformation, be they political, ideological, or material. For more information on these exhibitions and related public programs, visit our website through the link in our bio. #TroyMontesMichie #RockOfEye #DianeSeverinNguyen #IFREVOLUTIONISASICKNESS #atCAMH
