SUGGESTED BY YOU: THE WYTHENSHAWE CAFE HELPING LOCAL YOUNG OFFENDERS AND VULNERABLE PEOPLE // This week’s suggestion comes from @moyse999 who told us about a cafe hidden away on an industrial estate in Wythenshawe which he says is the most random and awesome coffee shop he’s come across in Manchester, so we headed over with @mattyfwhite to check it out.
@themesscafe is a charitable organisation that focuses on reducing re-offending in Manchester by giving people a chance to gain lawful employment, all while serving up home-cooked food & locally roasted coffee. We sat down with head-chef Joe, who was a former addict and convicted criminal before turning his life around as a service user of the charity.
His story alone is proof of the amazing work done by these guys, and his food speaks for itself. We tucked into the new weekly special - Thai Beef Noodles, Turkish Eggs, Buttermilk Chicken Burger, and Smashed Avocado on Toast with eggs. The quality is what you’d expect from a brunch spot in NQ or Ancoats.
There’s also an amazing grocery section where anyone in need can sign up to become a member, and you’ll receive 15 grocery items for just £4 a visit. The grocery section isn’t set up like a food bank, as the charity wants service users to have a more dignified experience. Sam told us that he based the style of the store on @generalstores_.
The charity has seen service users double in the past year, so they could do with your help now more so than ever. One of the easiest ways to help out is to head down and try Joe’s amazing food for yourself, but if you aren’t local and want to help out, you can head to the link in our bio and pay forward for someone to get their groceries for free.
LET US KNOW WHERE WE SHOULD GO NEXT AND WHY: Where do you think deserves some recognition? Tag your favourite places in the comments below and tell us why we should feature them.
