The more I experience life, the more it reveals to me what love is. It’s not a feeling — feelings are fleeting. It’s not a fantasy — fantasies are fiction. Love is foundational — built on Truth & patience & friendship & respect & humility & forgiveness & submission & sacrifice & perspective & faithfulness & grace — for an unfathomable purpose & Power much greater than ourselves. Love is a choice: Choosing to love God more than my selfish desires; Choosing to love myself over my fantastical ideas of how someone else “should” love me. Choosing to love others & respect their differences & boundaries, in spite of my ego & emotions. It’s not constant agreement or perfection or validation or codependency or romanticism or any of those things. It’s the constant conditioning of our hearts & minds to give & listen & show up & forgive & be patient & seek understanding, unconditionally.
