Doing foster care is the definition of beauty in heartache.
This is our baby Mira, whom we got when she was 7 months old. She came to us with a plethora of handicaps, holdups, and struggles, as one tends to do when born into such a traumatic situation, then in what seems like a blur, left a little over two years later with the most fierce, intelligent, and fiery personality a baby girl can have. An answer to prayer, God has provided her with a forever home where she will be loved and cared for, but that now means that a two and a half year old, ginger part of our hearts with purple glasses has gone out the door to live with her new Mom, Dad, brothers, and sister. How is it that such an awesome thing like a child being welcomed into the arms of a loving family can hurt so much? Like Vision said, “What is grief, if not love persevering?” There’s so much beauty in this heartache. However, a constant reminder in our household is that she, and every other child that has come through our home and stayed a while, is worth the heartbreak.
Mira, these past 28 months that you won’t even remember have impacted the McKees for life. Love you more than you could know.
Your brother,
Evan ❤️
