We are often asked the question - how do I prepare for a VBAC? While there are lots of answers to this question our biggest suggestion is to find a supportive provider + care team!
If you are a candidate for a VBAC (determined based on varying factors) and wanting to have one, finding a provider who is supportive of your decision is imperative. Many providers want you to go into spontaneous labor by 39 weeks in order to attempt a VBAC but this is unlikely for most women. Finding a provider who will allow you to go to 40 or 41 weeks drastically increases your rate of a VBAC.
Rate of “success” for VBAC according to week of delivery (according to the CDC):
38 weeks - 15%
39 weeks - 15%
40 weeks - 37.3%
>41 weeks - 45.6%
You also want to make sure the rest of your care team and support people are onboard with this. This would include people like your midwife, doula, partner, etc.
Have any of you had a successful VBAC? What is your biggest tip? ✨
