Good morning in the Chicago apartment of collector Muriel Kallis Newman standing in front of her #jacksonpollock painting “Number 28”, 1950 she bought from Sidney Janis Gallery in 1953. #clyffordstill “1947-H No. 1 (PH-265)”, 1947 was sold in the early ‘60s by Galerie Lawrence, Paris (Lawrence Rubin, the brother of curator William Rubin). In the right, #markrothko painting “No.3” from 1953. On the coffee table, #albertogiacometti sculpture “The Forest”, 1950 was purchased from #Giacometti’s second solo exhibition with Pierre Matisse the year it was made. The #alexandercalder #Calder mobile was bought in 1965 from B. C. Holland Gallery in Chicago. The collection, photographed here in her Chicago apartment, was promised to @metropolitanmuseum in 1980 and the donation made in 2006, transforming the museum’s holding of Abstract Expressionist painting. The furniture in the photo includes a chaise lounge by #LeCorbusier and #BarcelonaChair for #Knoll by #MiesVanDerRohe. Thanks @art.in.the.home for the caption.
