🚨JACKET REVEAL!!🚨
We can’t think of a better way to celebrate Women in Translation Month than by sharing the jacket for GREEK LESSONS, the new novel by Han Kang, author of the International Booker Prize winner The Vegetarian.
"Now and then, language would thrust its way into her sleep like a skewer through meat, startling her awake several times a night..."
In a classroom in Seoul, a young woman watches her Greek language teacher at the blackboard. She tries to speak but has lost her voice. Her teacher finds himself drawn to the silent woman, for day by day he is losing his sight. Greek Lessons is the story of the unlikely bond between this pair and a tender love letter to human intimacy and connection.
Anna Kochman, the designer of our striking book jacket, explains that she used the “idea of a kaleidoscope pattern as a jumping off point, because I just feel like those patterns are so beautiful and strange and that fit my experience of the book.”
“As soon as she lost speech,” writes Han, “all of this scenery became distinct fragments.” Anna drew upon this fragmentation to create our kaleidoscopic design, framing yet obscuring our protagonist’s face—blurring the line between the man and woman’s respective losses.
Greek Lessons is translated by Deborah Smith, who shared the International Booker Prize with Han for her translation of The Vegetarian, and Emily Yae Won, who has translated into Korean the works of Ali Smith, Deborah Levy, and Djuna Barnes.
Both timeless and unlike anything you’ve ever read, Greek Lessons comes out April 18th.
