Women in Iran have been at the forefront of protests that have swept the country for more than three weeks. They’ve been fighting for their basic freedoms and demanding an end to the mandatory headscarf, which has seen some women burn theirs on the streets of Iran. The protests were sparked by the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini who was detained by Iran’s morality police after being accused of her wearing her hijab ‘improperly’. But these women’s battle did not just begin now. The BBC’s Rana Rahimpour has pulled up archive footage from the wake of the Iranian revolution of 1979 and reflects on how generations of women have risked their lives in the fight for women’s freedom. #Iran #MahsaAmini #IranProtests
